Child Support after the age of 18 in California?

In California, when my daughter turns 18,
1-does child support stop?
2-if she is still in HS, does it continue even after 18 until she graduates?
3-if she goes to college does it continue or does that need to be in the divorce papers from the divorce?
4-once she has graduated, does to payments stop or do I need to have a lawyer start to request a few month prior to graduation?

If she turns 18 while still in high school then you have to continue to pay until she either graduates or turns 19 (in other words, you pay until she graduates as long as she's graduating in a timely fashion).

As for college, there's no case law requiring that a parent make child support payments to help pay for a child's college tuition or expenses.

When she's about to graduate you'll want to start filing to stop child support payments. Sometimes it stops automatically but there's no reason to take sometimes as the rule and it's better to just have your own butt protected.

Good luck.

The payments go up to 19, if she needs that long to graduate from high school. You just stop the payments yourselves. The only time you have to go back to court is if you have some issues on which you disagree.

If the court is using one of those agencies that garnish paychecks, or take the money from him and give it over to you, then you have to get a court order that the termination age is reached, and there are no further payments.

If the support order makes some special provision, based on the parents mutual agreement, for continuation of support past high school graduation, then you go by the order.
