How do I determine a fair amount of child support

My soon to be ex husband and I see our daughter equally. However, from everything I have read about divorce laws that does not mean I am not due child support. He makes twice the money I make in a week. I am processing my divorce online b/c it is non-contested and allot cheaper that way. It basically wants me to put an amount in there for the child support and I don't know what is fair or how to begin to come up w/ an amount. I know that ultimately the judge will decide but I would like to have something to start with. ......any ideas?

Well the reason for them asking an amount in child support is because when you are filing a non-contested divorce that means that you and your spouce are agreeing on everything. If you are filing for joint custody physical custody meaning that you both will share 50/50 of parenting time. Usally when this happens the court does not order either child to pay support, however if what you are saying is true and he makes more money than you do,then the court can make him pay you child support based on the life style that you and the children are used to. I would sujest that you both talk and come up with a figure that you both can agree on,if you do this then the court will allow that amount, and if ordered neither of you can file a motion to modifly the orignal within a two year period from the date of the order. If you cannot agree then the judge will decide what he or she thinks is fair.

Thank you for the answer and information you gave. I understand we must talk it over and agree on an amount. However I was wondering how to come up with that amount, to propose to him. I was told that there is a form that lawyers use to calculate the amount. Do you know anything about this form or what is used to determine the amount? Thanks!
