This is a very broad question. Each State varies as to Attorneys and thier fees. Some attorneys work on an hourly rate, some work on a contigency basis, (only collect funds if the prevail in a case ex:personal injury). Some ask up front for their fee. (Appellate Practice) Some work on retainer. Again it is a very broad question and has a lot of variables. Some divorce attorneys have a flat rate if it a simple divorce. Others charge by the hour, (even phone calls are charged onto the "Bill"). Best to call specific divorce attorneys if you are in need of advice and they can explain their fees.
