Most family courts realize that young couples don't have the money to hire lawyers, and don't even need lawyers if there's no divorce issues such as child custody, support, or property disputes.

You can go into the family court office and tell them you want to petition for divorce, that your spouse is agreeable to the divorce, that you have no children, support, or property disputes between you.

The office should help you file your own papers. You have to pay the filing fees depending on where you live. They shouldn't be more than $200 or so.

The filing fee for a divorce case will be dependent upon which county that are in. Each county determine their own filing fees which typically range in the $200-300 price range.

If you need to have your spouse served the divorce paperwork versus your spouse voluntarily signing the divorce paperwork, you will incur service fees. Many courts have a process to waive the filing fees if you are indigent.

You can also google do it yourself divorce kits for Illinois to see if you can find an attorney that will draft and explain the process of finalizing a divorce.
