It depends on how dependent she was on you.

the reason most wifes get alimony is because they stay at home and the guy works. so when they split, she has no money, this is to help with that.

if she has her own job and money, you may or may not have too.

I'm in California, I am not a lawyer however, years ago when my now ex and I first had problems with our marriage being just under 5 years, I was told no alimony would not be possible.
This was way back in 85 so I'm sure things have changed since then.

In a short term marriage, even if you did have to pay something, it would only be for half the time of your marriage. 2.5 years and also, you have the fact you didn't live but 9 months with the spouse.
If you both state this, the judge will consider this.
Based on what I went through with my long term marriage/divorce, I would be surprised if any lawyer took this case on either side.
Under five years isn't worth going to court over unless there is property involved and a shared savings/retirement plan that amounted to a lot of money.
Meaning, a plan started "after" the marriage, not before.

If she does not have a job now possibly. bit if she was self-dependent for 3 years w/o you, has savings, and living on her own. I believe no. There is good information on marital assets and alimony from other sites but not many divorces are the same. She could just be a person who does not look for work.
I knew a friend that filed for a divorce by default. She did not respond nor contest the divorce, and was properly served. Her right to alimony was waived forever. That could work in your situation.

And in a short term marriage, no alimony is usually given. Do not be scared and think you will pay 1/2. that is simply not true, not fair and not equitable (as a judge would say)

Also, I forgot to point out. You only lived together for 9 months. That is extremely short term. Your obligation to her is 9 months. No, you're good as gold. Judges base it on the "date of separation" not just length of marriage. Many people stay married but separate much before that and that is what they base it off of, Ask any family law clerk, attorney, judge.
