Probably nothing if I was guessing right. I Have a daughter and am still getting nothing from my ex husband

Answer 2/8 - Submitted 5/28/2011

Assets

Answer 3/8 - Submitted 5/28/2011

Might I suggest she get a job? In a world where everything is equal, right? If there are no kids, why should the wife get a dime? I mean, half of assets is probably in line if those assets were shared, and equally contributed to. But other than that there shouldn't be anything offered. Why is it that so many women want to be treated equal and be considered independent, UNTIL they get divorced and all of a sudden they are helpless to survive on their own without their ex spouse supporting them?

If you ask me, most divorce situations are scams, and acts of revenge.

It makes no difference what gender you are in a divorce. If you were the lower earning spouse, you might receive some spousal support. Texas makes it harder to receive support than some other states. Any property will be divided according to the marital interest. If you had a marriage longer than 10 years you could receive some Social Security even if you don't qualify on your own. Most people have their own. It's disappointing to read someone who thinks if they are a woman, they are perhaps entitled. This is the 21st century and if you are entitled it's not because you are a woman. You should visit a local attorney to learn what you need to do.

Texas doesn't have alimony (which is why a lot of rich people like to get divorced here). All that Texas offers is spousal support, and even that is limited to three years, max. In short, a woman expecting to get a lifetime stream of alimony income after divorcing in Texas is going to be very disappointed. In brief, she may get spousal support, but that's it.

Texas is a community property state as opposed to a common law state. In a community property state each spouse is entitled to one half of whatever the couple acquired during the marriage. Whatever each spouse brought into the marriage remains the individual property of that spouse.

Answer 8/8 - Submitted 10/24/2011

Since child support is out, there's always alimony and property settlement.

Anything purchased during the marriage, using money earned by your spouse, or you, would be subject to division upon divorce.

Also, where a spouse is a homemaker, and the other spouse pursues a career, the spouse that stays home often is awarded spousal support (alimony) on the ground that she (or he) helped to support the working spouse emotionally by being a helping and considerate partner.

Texas is a community property state, meaning that money earned and things acquired during the marriage should be split 50-50.
